Shoaib Akhtar hit Mohammad Asif in the thigh but he shot himself in the foot. There can be no excuse for striking anybody let alone with a cricket bat. That you would attack a colleague under the glare of the international media is an extreme misjudgment, the behaviour of an individual who is incapable of self-control, unwilling to accept the bounds of common decency, and delusional about his own importance.
One reason why Shoaib continues to transgress, of course, is that he keeps getting away with it. He has rescued his career repeatedly. Hyperextension, unprofessional behaviour, dismal fitness, and performance enhancing drugs have failed to halt him. Whenever he returns it is with a surprising arrogance, blind to any of his weaknesses and the blame placed on others.
Shoaib has always mustered support. His extreme speed and attacking approach is an exhilarating spectacle. Like many others I have believed his madness could be harnessed into a valuable role for Pakistan cricket. But perhaps I and many others must now accept that we got it wrong. Shoaib has become uncontrollable and there is no success in sport without discipline, not even for wild men.
Shoaib will grovel, apologise, make some feeble excuses for his behaviour--and there may have been some diabolical provocation--but nothing predicts behaviour like behaviour, and when it comes to Shoaib we all must have run out of patience at the ongoing damage to Pakistan cricket.

Shoaib strikes again !!!
I was a big big fan of Shoaib Akthar, but he gives me more causes of shame for my admiration of his ability.
I really feel that it is time for us to accept that Shoaib is a source of disgrace to Pakistani Cricket.
You might say most geniuses are flawed, we constantly hear about Lara's unpopular status in his own team and Warne's scandals. Shoaib is not in the same league as them when it comes to cricket. And the misdeeds of those two look very forgivable compared to Shoaib.
SHOAIB AKHTAR IS THE BRITNEY SPEARS OF PAKISTANI CRICKET. A lot of early promise, followed by unexplainable craziness... oh and they both have been inthe process of losing hair.
Posted by: sumit ghosh-India at September 7, 2007 8:29 AM
The only countries where we are so tolerant of the arrogant malice perpetrated by cricketers are India and Pakistan. In any of the other test-playing nations, or associate countried for that matter, the person in question would have been thrown out summarily and unceremoniously. Here, we try to make excuses to keep them and justify their actions.
The reason is simple - we are both desperate for heroes! And we can't bear to see our idols descent to the depths of the common man. Enough said...
The PCB should ban Shoaib for life. Period! He has repeatedly tarnished the image of Pakistan cricket, and stands for all that has gone bad in cricket. The ICL should also not invite him over. That would be in very bad taste.

Last night just before hitting the sack, I heard the news about this dressing-room spat and I wasn't shocked but, I was definitely upset and angry. The news coming from Pakistan or about the Pakistan cricket team or players is seldom a shocker for me. Because, I believe that anything can happen, everything is possible and one needs to be prepared for the worst news so you don't get shocked. I wrote my feelings in the previous thread and it didn't get through perhaps Mr. Abbassi may have been busy in writing a new thread on the subject. So, now I can re-express my feelings and get this post in the appropriate thread.
"Wow, what a news! I must say this Pakistan team, especially Shoaib Akhtar has a knack of capturing the headlines all the time. No matter who is at fault, it is about time that Shoaib Akhtar should be sent back and banned for life from playing for Pakistan. He can very well go hell or join the ICL band wagon. He has brought enough disgrace to the nation and someone has to put his foot down and take a bold decision, enough is enough. I cannot believe that they would act like immature kids and get involved in a dressing-room spat? And, Shoaib Akhtar being the senior player must have shown some maturity, instead he swings a bat at Asif? What a shame! What a disgrace and what a beginning to this twenty20 World Cup? And what an impression on the new coach Lawson on his first international outing with the team?
Asif should also be sent back and he also needs to be penalized. Neither of them are indispensable and neither of them have performed well in the quadrangular tournament so their loss won't be any loss at all. If they stay they will ruin the dressing room atmosphere further and will also be a menace on the field, as one cannot put up an act and play with total concentration and devotion. If the PCB fails to take any disciplinary action against these two players now, they will once again be a laughing stock."
Mr. Abbassi is right that "Shoaib will grovel, apologise, make some feeble excuses...." yes, he will and like I said, enough is enough and he should not get away this time. He has tarnished the image of Pakistan on several occasions and done more damage than doing anything good for the country. He is a rogue player and must be remembered that way. I regret having supported him during the doping scandal but, I was not alone in supporting him, to quote Mr. Abbassi again, "Shoaib has always mustered support." I agree that his continued bad behaviour both, "on and off" the field is getting out of control, he appears like an addict who is going through withdrawal symptoms and nothing has halted him or his arrogance. Only a life ban for representing Pakistan should serve him like a life sentence. Because, in his career there is no time left to rehabilitate him or cure his madness. For sure he is a goner this time!

No one individual is bigger than the game.
The PCB has let Akhtar off the hook more times than any of us can remember. But why? Is he really that good of a player for the PCB to have to undermine their own professional structure and regulations? There are two answers to this question: (1) the PCB is not a professional organisation, it resembles a circus; (2) Akhtar is not bigger than the team as a whole and the team should not be sacrificed for someone who performs well once evry other blue moon (that's assuming he's fit and not banned).
The PCB should first close the door on Akhtar for good and then steps should be taken to shake up the whole PCB organisation.
Why does every competition start with a Pakistani soap opera??

Pakistan cricket is like a very sad or a very happy American soap opera. Whichever you prefer, it is nonetheless highly entertaining. Who cares about missing an episode of Grey's Anatomy when you have A-list actors right at home? Such is the temerity and fickleness of Pakistan cricket that an article written by Mr. Samiuddin, possibly no longer than 24 hours ago, looks as dated as old man Methuselah himself.

Well it is about time that PCB should look into future without shoaib as he is nearing his end as well 31 years of age and still living in self made illuisioin that he can get away with anything. Pakistan cricket need discipline more then anything else for team not a permanent trouble maker and someone who bring cricket and country in disrepute. I am sorry but he has not respect for anyone not even for himself.

Once again, Shoaib has done what he does best - Make a spectacle of himself off the field. I think its about time Pakistan started looking at new options to lead their bowling attack as this Shoaib madness has gone on too long. Once again, he has left Pakistan in a muddle prior to a major series. I say, good riddance to bad luck. NEXT!!

I think Asif made some comment about Shoaib looking like a nackered old goat and it got too much for Shoaib.
It was clear before Bob Woolmer took charge of the team that Shoaib is no longer a reliable part of the teams future plans, the doping scandal was merely a chance of rhim to add a few extra matches to his career total.
The team must move on, although at times like this they could use inzi back in the team for one last swan song while we play Australia, India and South Africa at the end of the year.
Good bye Shoaib you foolish donkey.

I hope the PCB finally realise, that the Shoaib Akhtar is more bad then good for the team. As I am sure many would agree, the man is exciting a match winner, but a huge liability!!!
Shoaib may claim, that he was a victim (maybe the bat was placed in his hand and maybe a gust of wind pushed the bat against Asif's thigh: word maybe must be used sparringly), and how in his career, he has always faced adversity (mainly caused by himself), but (somehow) has always managed to come-back.
But is this come-back, a come-back to often!?

I do like watching Shoaib bowl, he is full of energy, he is injury prone and he has troubled some of the world's best batsman: Tendulkar, Lara, Ponting etc. with his immense pace. But in reality Shoaib is a man who acts like a young teenager, he doesn't act his age, he is nearly 30 years old and he acts 13 or 14. Using violence against your own colleges? thats just the end of the straw, the ice has melted. Sorry Shoaib but you have just crossed the line. Drugs is forgiveable, many people in sport have used them and have paid the price. His attitude is horrific and must be condemed. Sorry Shoaib but all bad deeds must be punished. no matter what Asif did, he shouldn't have hit him. He must now pay the price. He has left a gr8 memory in World Cricket of the once youthfilled man who destroyed even Australia and India. Farewell Shoaib but u should leave if u want to act like this.

Posted by: Sevoprop at September 7, 2007 9:33 AM
Shoaib's dismal behavioral record overshadows his potential to be a great bowler on the lines of the Pakistani greats. His record to date does not do him any favours, which is just mediocre.
His fitness levels are so poor that he struggles to complete a series.
Moreover hyperextension or not, the flexion before a delivery is noticeable to everyone in the world and I wonder if these tests are carried out with him bowling at his "100mph" speed, for its only then we get to see the "hyperextension" part of his action which is not visible otherwise at deliveries bowled in the mid 80's.
I would rather not see such a figure who is a bad example to sport, with his unsporting behaviour, drug scandals etc even at the expense of missing out an entertaing and enthralling challenge between him and the top batsmen of the world.

i feel like crying. another big tournament, another big controversy. when will pakistan cricket get rif of this mess. personally am against any kind of ban for shoiab. as hes the strike bowler in this vulnerable looking pakistan bowling line up. if he is not there... the paki bowling side is less then mediocre!
Posted by: Tab at September 7, 2007 9:34 AM
well its the problem of our system. look at australians they retire Steve Waugh on his peak so to McGrath and Shane Warne.
I think PCB is not going to let him go this time.
Defeat is acceptable with fight but insult of Pakistan is not accepted.
On the replacement issue, I would suggest M. Yousaf should be selected. Pakistan has already 4 more seamers in the squad, we need to make solid our batting with person who can handle pressure.
Posted by: arfan at September 7, 2007 9:34 AM
this is yet another farce on the face of pakistan cricket. Surely this should be the final straw for the PCB and shoud be the perfect oppurtunity to wipe thire hands clean to get ref of this guy. Sure he is talented but Pakistan need to look at the future and give the likes of Anwar Ali a chance.

Posted by: Asim Naeem at September 7, 2007 9:35 AM
I think this was the last straw on the camels back. People who try to be larger than the game itself always end up regreting their fallacy.
I'm not a pessimist at all and believe me that this could end up being a blessing is disguise for Pakistan in this 1st edition of Twenty20 WC.
If anybody of you have been following the Twenty20 cups held in Pakistan, let me tell you it is won by spinners and mainly left arm spinners. Reducing the pace is the key. The Pakistan squad must utilize Fawad Alam and Abdul Rehman well. This will not only strengthen the bowling but also the batting and fielding.
My first XI would be Nazir, Butt, Younis, Malik, Akmal, Alam, Rehman, Afridi, Asif, Rao, Gul
Posted by: Daniyal at September 7, 2007 9:36 AM
I have for long been questioning why Shoaib is in the team specially after the world cup. About time the world saw the real Shoaib Akhtars worlds fastest bowlers -- toss him out on his ass there are plenty of fast and furious men out there.

Posted by: Harris Shahzad at September 7, 2007 9:38 AM
I agree with Mr Abassi.
Shoaib was good when it was on "his" terms. Theres no excuse for him hitting any other player let alone your own teammate; and that too with a bat.
will he ever learn his lesson? probably not, hes way too wild to be a team player and Pakistan almost always suffer when hes in the team.
Hes the "Fast and Furious", but his effect in the team is always detrimental.
Leave him out I say, we are better off without him!!!
Posted by: Adil Saghir at September 7, 2007 9:39 AM
All the Pakistan Team members are our representatives, its a big responsibility. They must realise this and someone dosn't he must pay the price. If joining ICL is such an offence that close door of PCB then I think its much bigger and severe than that. Hopefuly there would not be any second opinion and opposition against penalisation.

Shoaib Akhtar is an idiot, obviously there was something said by Asif as well, but he should of controlled himself, and to hit someone with a bat come on!
I am sick and tired of watching the news (like today) that he has been sent home from the team. And to be honest I am sick and tired of him as well, arguing with everybody and expecting special treatment all the time!
Although I do not think we are going to miss him referring to his bowling figures in the four nation tournament in Kenya!
The other thing as well is that there is a new coach in Geoff Lawson, what must he be thinking of this overgrown kid.
Shoaib you have put shame on yourself, and more importantly your country that seems to be in the media for the wrong reasons anyway!
God help Pakistan!

Posted by: Navin at September 7, 2007 9:45 AM
I think it's time Pakistan cricket authorities announce a suitable punishment and much more importantly do not revoke it under the guise of an appeal committee. This has happened too many times in recent past that PCB announces some action only to revoke it after some time. It's making PCB butt of a joke and the current mis-adventure of Shoaib was bound to happen sooner or later in this or some other form. Cricket lovers all over the world get astonished by the talent available in Pakistan cricket, but more often than not meet with disappointment when they expect a group of individuals to perform as a team and justify their enormous talent. Acts of gross indiscipline like this, which often go unpunished, are a major reason for that. I hope this time at least PCB will not budge under star power and will think about long term welfare of Pakistan cricket and wouldn't sweep the matter under carpet in search of non-existent short-term gains.
Posted by: Bashir Mirza at September 7, 2007 9:45 AM

How long Shoaib would keep on repeating these kind of things and causing disgrace for the country? Who says, he is a match winner? How many times, he won matches for Pakistan in his 10 years long career? Even an average player can do handful of matches in 10 years. The thing to see is that his behaviour is having bad effects on juniors as well. It is the time to get rid of him and impose a life ban to tell others that there is no star in the playing 11.
Posted by: Rajan Chakravarty at September 7, 2007 9:46 AM
I have followed international cricket since 1974, when I was a ten-year-old. I can't remember a single cricketer, the colourful Sarfraz Nawaz included, who has played fast and loose with the game's laws and spirit as much as Shoaib Akhtar has. And as Mr Abbasi rightly points out Shoaib's ability to get out of jail might have convinced him of his own immortality. But the dressing room fracas might, and should, mean the end of his international career. I still remember those two deliveries with which he got rid of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in Calcutta. I would be sorry to see him go, as would many others who have been enthralled by his liquid pace. But go he must now,for the sake of Pakistan cricket and for the greater good of the game.
Posted by: Mustansir Mukhi at September 7, 2007 9:47 AM
I agree with Kamran Abbasi, I has become increasingly frustrating to see Shoaib let us down each time only to stand up again with a promise of a U-turn in his attitude and let us down again.
We need to accept the fact that Shoaib is a spent force and we have to deal with the situation and groom some budding youngsters. Food for thought....Why can't we have a Pace Academy like the MRF Pace Foundation in India? We have Geoff Lawson, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Aaqib Javed and occasionally Imran Khan to nuture this idea and re-kindle Pakistan's diminishing pace bowling supremacy!
Posted by: Pandit Basdeo Maharaj at September 7, 2007 9:48 AM

It is a shame that such an exciting cricketer's life is always mired in controversies and Shoaib has only himself to blame for these. Cricket lovers all over the world have been deprived of opportunities to witness his skill. Still, at some point, PCB has to say - enough is enough and close the curtain on Shoaib's career to show that they will not tolerate indisciple and roguish behavior. Shoaib is not setting the right examples to young kids. A few years ago, Vinod Kambli who was considered to have more talent than Sachin, was booted out of the Indian team for repeated breaches of disciplines. Does PCB have the spine to do the right thing here?
Posted by: Jawad Husain at September 7, 2007 9:48 AM
Absolutely right, in my view the board should impose some fine on Shoaib Akhtar. He always gets away without being fined, but this is too much...hurting your own team mate. If you people please pass this message to Shoaib from my side " Hey Shoaib...please try to control your temper or you'll suffer...don't take me wrong but you are one of the best bowlers in the world...and if you do such kinda things with your own team-mates...all the people around the world will say that there is no discipline in this team and they'll get beaten easily by even the weakest team in the world "

At a time when pakistan cricket is trying to recover from the world-cup debacle and controversy sorrounding bob woolmer's death, this is the last thing that it needs.

It was quick move from the Board to send him back and rightly so. He should be banned and forced to retire in a with only himself to blame. The board can set an example with further punishment to make sure no one dares repeat the act.It has become a routine of the Pakistani cricketers when ever abroad to make the headlines for similar acts, the board must put a stop to this and fine the players involved to have discipline enforced.

I can't remember any major tournament or series where he did not create an embarrassing moment for the team and the Pakistani nation.
Shoaib - Good night and good luck.
Posted by: Assad at September 7, 2007 9:52 AM
Enough is enough...I admire Shoaib's speed and match winning skills but his arrogant and carefree attitude has antagonized even his most staunch supporters. The time has come to dump this guy and try and groom some other fast bowlers. It won't matter anyway, he is unfit 99% of the time, perhaps the total absence of his domineering personality from the dressing room will give a little more room to the youngsters. The world has seen many great fast bowlers, bowlers with greater speed and skill than Shoaib but never have we seen a person so astonishingly insolent, and so predictably violent. Let him take his temper and his unethical practices elsewhere.....cricket still is a gentleman's game....

I dont know why was PCB very kind to him.He should have been kicked from the team for dopping.Whatever,
You are right Mr. Abbasi he has shot himself in the foot by hitting Asif.I think after this drama no one will support him now.I my opinion Shoiab is finished for Pakistan now.He happily can join ICL now.

Posted by: Adil at September 7, 2007 9:54 AM
Well said. In his selfishness, Shoaib fails to realise that his immaturity doesn't just reflect on himself but the Pakistan administration as a whole. I work with English and South African colleagues who just laugh at every twist and turn that his career goes through. I don't blame them.
However, I believe that only half of the credit for his farcical career lies with Shoaib. The other half lies with the PCB who have repeatedly failed to lay down the law with him.
As a Pakistan cricket fan, I am sick and tired of watching Shoaib make countless comebacks only to be injured/disciplined within a couple of games.
As a Pakistani citizen, I am sick and tired of watching someone who is effectively an ambassador for the nation show no respect for authority and constantly make a fool of himself.
I don't care how great his bowling skills are or how many matches he wins for Pakistan. A man without any grace or class has no place in international cricket.
Posted by: Hussain at September 7, 2007 9:55 AM
Lack of education I must say. He cannot handle his fame. Even high profile players like Warne and Pietersen mess about but don't cross limits like he has. I wanted to see him back even after the doping scandal but this is just too much.
Even though I am all for ICL, I hope they don't offer him a place

As the old adage goes: This is the straw that broke the camels back. This incident is a very sad and embarassing day for Pakistan cricket and the nation. Shoaib was a great talent and could have been one of the best bowlers of all time but we cant keep letting him off the hook. The board has to send a strong message. Mr. Nasim Ashraf, please revoke his contract and end this saga of unfulfilled promise and talent once and for all.
He has to go. Sad end but this guy deserves nothing better.

This guy is getting out of control, I was so looking forward to see him along side with Gul & Asif for the very first time.
Its a shame that because of his indecent and childish behavior whole Nation has to suffer.
I think its enough and now PCB has to make sure that he doesn't get away with it this time

i think, this is enough, enough is enough, we should have banned Shoaib an year ago when he got involved in dopping scandle.
i wonder why the cricket authorities in Pakistan keep beting on a lossing horse.
how long they support a man with full of controversies?....
i can only suggest to PCB that, plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz do an extremme favour to pakistan cricket and BAN Shoiad Akhtar from al sorts of cricket. it would be better not only for the cricket but for the image of the game too.
cricket is a game of gentlemen nand it has no belongingness to unprofessional and unethical mens.
Posted by: Mohson Hussain at September 7, 2007 9:56 AM
Salaam. Dear oh dear, what is Shoaib Akhtar playing it? Unprofessional and arrogant are two words that spring to mind when talking about Akhtar's shenanigans. Pakistan are blessed with pace at the moment in this team and what does Akhtar do, shoots himself in the foot (forever I hope now).
Pakistan had an excellent chance of winning with Akhtar, Asif and Gul as the pacemen. I still believe we can reach the semi-finals as it will be our slow bowlers who do the damage. However, Akhtar will be a great loss due to his ability to bowl variations. Asif does not possess this quality yet. Gul will be the bowler to watch from the remaining pacemen.
I am disappointed and fearful of Pakistans chances now. However, all this must come to an end with Akhtar. Pakistan must fine him and ban him. PCB must show him who's boss. In my opinion he is not the future of Pakistan cricket now. The future is Asif and Gul. Pakistan must build their team around them in the bowling department. If Akhtar can win back his place through sheer hard work and success at domestic level I would welcome him back. He needs to lose the attitude. I am sick and tired of the bad press Pakistan Cricket gets. Mostly, Akhtar is involved. He brings the board into disrepute. He makes a mockery of the system and the board of directors dont know any better. If Pakistan dropped Akhtar now, it would be beneficial long term.
No other cricket board goes through the turmoils that the PCB does. Their incompetence cannot be matched. I am very disillusioned with PCB.
Having had my rant, I will still be cheering Pakistan because our unpredicatbility is still our chief weapon. We still got Nazir, Butt, Malik, Afridi, Younis, Akmal, Gul and Asif. All class players. Inshallah, the team will play as best as they can and so long as they give 100%, I will be satisfied. Wasalaam.

after champion trophy i prayed that shoaib gets away with this but not now.
he has been given a lot of chances but his behaviour has not changed and this has always affected our preparation in major cups.
we lost champion trophy and in my view world cup also because of asif and shoaib.
Posted by: Atiq at September 7, 2007 9:58 AM
I think Shoaib has been a liabilitiy rather than an asset to Pakistan cricket for a long time. PCB should get rid of him once and for all.
Posted by: shahid shah at September 7, 2007 9:59 AM
Mr. Abbassi, you have predicted an end to Shoaib's career many time through your articles. Also that word (diabolical) which was first used by Darrell Hair in his book. But Hair was using that word while giving reference to Murali's action not Shoaib. As far as this present incident is concerned, I think if the action is taken fairly then both Asif and shoaib should be sent home. As it takes two to make a quarrell or clap. Why the decision was only taken against Shoaib why not against Asif. For me its not fair.
Posted by: Humair Malik at September 7, 2007 9:59 AM
Spot on, how long can anyone tolerate this type of attitude! These guys should be fighting for places in/stay the team, not fight the team! His attitude stinks, he has the mindset of being bigger than the team/country, I say let him got to the ICL, all his favourite clubs are there! Sportsman, he isn’t, gentlemen he isn’t, Pakistani, I seriously doubt that also!

Its a Shame to see him go like this. He could have been a Champion Bowler like Wasim and Waqar!!

Posted by: Asif at September 7, 2007 10:00 AM
Spot on.
It seems that superstar status can be both good and bad. Shoaib is one who has the same spark when performing that the likes of Afridi and Dhoni have but with a dark side.
His downfall is in believing that he is indispensable to the team and that he cannot be replaced. Both are factors that have taken him from a prominent spearhead to the Pakistani attack to someone that is only good for controversy. I think we all just wished he would do his job and bowl lightning quick yorkers rather than be on the cricinfo page for his antics. The end of Shoaib? I think he decided that himself.
Posted by: Yas at September 7, 2007 10:00 AM
My god what an utter idiot this Shoaib Akhtar really is. Kick him out and ban him from the team completely, who cares if he goes to the ICL...they are more than welcome to him. Disgraceful behaviour but then nothing ever surprises me about Akhtar...why the hell can he not just concentrate on cricket and being the best he can be.
Ban him from the team for life, hes obviously not learning and thinks he can get away with it. Its time the PCB stood and put their foot down. I do hope Asif is ok to play as losing him would be a big blow...losing Akhtar is a blow but we have shown that we can play just as well without him. It will be a shame to see him not play as he has the pace to destroy batsmen but im sure that most of the cricket world must be laughing at Pakistan and the diabolical shambles we find ourselves in once again.
The sooner this delusional muppet is gone the better.

I believe that this is the BEST thing which could possibly have happened to Pakistan cricket right now!
Mohammad Asif has been tremendous for Pakistan in his short career so far. However it looked as if he was going the Shoaib Akhtar way with the Drugs scandal etc.
It is a known fact that Asif follows Shoaib like a sheep! Hopefully now Shoaib will never be allowed back in the team ever again and Mohammad Asif will also learn and give importance to his career!
We can only hope Shoaib is not allowed anywhere near the team ever again! But knowing politics in Pakistan cricket don’t be surprised if this is another issue brushed under the carpet!

I am a cricket lover from India
It is sad to see that a talent like Shoaib is not seen in cricket. All the fast bowlers have the problem with their temperament but shoaib is the worst .But it is the responsibilty of the team management to control those charecters in the team.He has been habituated his behaviour due to lack of control over him through out his career. The abscence of a Senior player like Inzamam is evident there.I am worried whether it will be the end of his career. We need that fiery man in the middle & hope he will rectify himself and come back-doubtful but that is what I wish.
Posted by: Ali at September 7, 2007 10:03 AM
The man is a maniac, no doubt about it. But maybe you have to be this crazy to do what he can do with a cricket ball. Regardless of his madness I hope PCB finds a way to bring him back for the couple of years he has got left. Keep him caged or something or in a seperate room from the team, but let him loose on the opposition.
Posted by: Ahrash at September 7, 2007 10:03 AM
What a relief. Undoubtedly talented Shoaib is a disgrace and I agree this is the end of his Pakistan career, unless a new administration is brought in ofcourse.I actually think that this is a blessing for the 20:20 world cup as we have seen in domestic competitions that pace is not an asset in 20:20, secondly,he is liable to bowl no balls and thirdly it is harmonious teams that win 20:20 games. I would avoid bringing in Sami for the above two reasons and opt for Najaf Shah.
Posted by: Muhammad Amjad Mayo at September 7, 2007 10:03 AM
I just only say that is not cricketing mind that had Shoaib. And I think that’s enough from Shoiab and must be ban form International cricket. This is also bad impression from a Pakistani cricketer to the cricketing world.

No doubt about it - not only he brings bad name to Pakistan Cricket but also the performance of pakistan's team goes down. Its ICC Champion's Trophy or world cup, even this time T20 world cup - his unprofessional attitude make entire preparation of team in vain......For God sake, PCB should not consider him for further selection.

Its not first incident, Shoaib Akhtar always damages our team moral and national image in international media. This kind of behavior should not acceptable at any level, and PCB should ban him for a lifetime.
But we all know that Shoaib would not has any regret as he has golden opportunity to join ICL and gain 120-140 million rupees in only 45 days cricket, and this kind of life suite his lifestyle.
For Pakistan he not played more than 40 days in 3 years but he not able to earn as much money as ICL offering him for 3 years.
Pakistan Team wins many matches without his representation with “ordinary” bowlers, so we should not need to tolerate this “special” speedster.
Posted by: Nomi at September 7, 2007 10:06 AM
Don't know about the all those years but he has not but physically fit for quite some time now. Scandals, breaches of conduct etc are just an easy way out of that situation and that is what he has been doing ever since.
So much time and money has been wasted on him and he should have been played to the hilt to get Board/Pakistan's money worth. Saving him for this series and that series was never going to work. And sadly that option has expired too.
Posted by: Danish Faruqui (INDIA) at September 7, 2007 10:06 AM
I think you are not crediting Shoaib with enough intelligence. I think he is very smart. He deliberately wants to be banned and then use it as an excuse for joining ICL.

Shoaib is one the best and most exciting bowlers i have witnessed. I will always support Shoib what ever he does because of the shear beauty he brings on to the game of cricket. The people like him gives us motivation to watch the game. I honestly feel some conspiracy to make him do the wrong things. Once more its evident why the subcontinent teams lack real heroes, its because we don't value or respect them.

Its embarrasing might not for shoiab but certainly for us being pakistani.how could u do this to ur fellow player?U must be lunatic to do this? Now it should be the end of him.I,m a fan of his bowling but this kind of behaviour is unbearable. Now pcb should stop wasting money on shoaib?he is unfit 11 months out of 12.and a month he spends in controvesries.what use of this kind of bowler? Pcb should give respect players like Razzaq and M yousaf not an idiot like shoaib akhtar who likes to be in headlines always.
Posted by: Swami at September 7, 2007 10:08 AM
Pakistan cricket is paying the price for not having the guts to put the interests of the team ahead of the individual, and nurturing a desire to win by hook or crook. The overall image is in tatters and it will be better served when it realises that dignity is more important than winning or losing.
Posted by: Umair Ahsan at September 7, 2007 10:08 AM
For God's sake ban him for life. This may do some good for future of Pakistan cricket. One can hold successive heads of PCB, including Naseem Ashraf, accountable for letting Shoaib off the hook every time he misbehaved.

Posted by: Amit Sood at September 7, 2007 10:09 AM
You have to be real jerk to do what Shoaib has done and more importantly he keeps doing it and keeps getting away from it.
Sad point is we have to let go such a raw talent without seeing him damaging many more batsman's averages not to mention their body though ironically he did damaged someone before leaving the international stage.
Posted by: Naeem Amin at September 7, 2007 10:10 AM
Hi all
I guess all these problems are because of PCB. The board is too weak to take any action against the players. If the board ever imposes any penalty it is revoked later on. I mean enough is enough. Come on and have some strong policies and stick to them and throw anybody who goes against them. No matter if its Shoaib, Inzamam or anyone else.
Posted by: Anand Seshadri at September 7, 2007 10:11 AM
Correct. He should be taken out of cricket. As South Asians, Indians and Pakistanis alike, we were all a bit taken by his speed and hostility but I think we have seen through this "smoke and mirrors" effect. But with an arm like that for crying out loud, maybe he should take up Javelin throwing? I cant see him picking up a fight with his competitors in that game - they are all considerably larger than he is and that might channel his anger into throwing it even further?
Posted by: Abdul Waheed - USA at September 7, 2007 10:11 AM

Posted by: kurk at September 7, 2007 10:15 AM
Well, well said and enough said about Shoaib Akhtar,m but we must listen the story on both side. and than find out the conclusion. I don't know what is the role of a manger in a cricket team, who cannot control 14 or 15 players in a team.
I am a GM of a hotel and I am having 200 personnel working under me. If my staff make any mistake , I am responsible ( not directly) but I am the one who is responsible for my staff.
We all know that Shoaib Akhtar has a attitude problem but what step has the PBC has taken to either get rid of him or cure the attitude problem.

Hay its again the same guy. Every time when Pakistani team would go seriously in a tournament or there would be a possibility that they could perform better in the tournament, something mean happened. And most of the recent times, its the same Shoaib Akhtar. He should be banned for life
Posted by: Sitarah Anjum (London) at September 7, 2007 10:15 AM
Thanks God, Mr. Kamran chose this topic, after what we heard yesterday in the news about the bad boy Shoaib Akhter, I eagerly expected that.
We all heard and saw so much about Shoaib Akhter’s controversies and hoped one day it will be over and he will be a good boy. But it seems he has some serious behavioural problems that need treatment now! He has been given numerous opportunities to correct his attitude and gross behaviour but he disdainfully rejects everything and does not take anything serious. I was among those people who used to ignore what he does in his personal life. If he at least performs for the team Pakistan then I would forget the ‘bad’ part of him but he has proved me and all other fans wrong.
I think in the interest of Pakistan cricket, management and for discipline’s sake we should all say goodbye to Akhtar and accept that we no longer need him in the team! Let Shoaib Akhtar go and decide his future himself now. He would remain in our memory as ‘Rawalpindi Express’ that derailed over and over again!

But another shock to Pakistan Cricket and chances of winning the Twenty20 WorldCup.. I think Board made da rite decision callin him back home.. Its high time now for PCB to thank Shoaib for his services to the nation now we dont need him anymore.. He's all free to go and play for ICL..
Also
ICL Saga is playing a crucial role in all these Riot..
Players are now more eased and relaxed..
and takin things for granted..
Shoaib takin discipline more lightly because..
he have another option opend up for him..
if board will try to take action on him..
he will go and join ICL ..
Its High Time for PCB to farewell Shoaib Akhtar and Allow there players to go and play for ICL..
So that players keep there welfare high..

I hope S. African police will start criminal investigations against the assailant with or without a formal complaint from the victim. I also hope Akhtar is arrested before he leaves the country. I hope Asif is also thinking of bringing a civil suit, regardless of whether there is a criminal process. I do not want to see Akhtar hitting another human being only to walk in to a multi-million $ deal with the ICL. I do not expect the ICL to have the guts to say no to Akhtar, but Akhtar must be made to pay under the laws of society at large rather than just those of cricket. It's not about the rules of cricket or norms of decency, which he has regularly flaunted. This time he has broken the law, and the country under whose jurisdiction this prima facie crime has taken place must take action to uphold its laws.

I've a big supporter of shoaib over the years and seeing him run in like a racehorse was a buzz in itself. But sadly I think it is all over for shoaib, I could understand if the guy was injury free taking wickets and then incidents like these would be brushed aside. But for someone on the sidelines he creating too much headache and hassle. Its a vicious life cycle when your at the end of your career as a bowler and in competition with younger up and coming bowlers. shoaib did the same to Wasim and Waqar when they were near their end telling them that they no longer were match winners etc etc. Mo Asif probably said the same.

I met shoaib in a charity match three weeks ago and was on a table next to him, i must admit he is the most arrogant person i have ever met in my life. He has no ethics or morals and it seemed oblivious to the world. He is stuck in his own world and needs to get out of it . Coming to think of it the indian players such as Yuvraj, Zaheer Khan and others showed similar arrogance. These players think they are not only successful individuals, i myself own a business that employs nearly 400+ people and turnover £8 million a year but i don't show this through arrogance. I respect each and every person and i expect the same back. This is what is happening with Shoaib, more and more people dislike him as a player and as a individual. I also met some English players that day and they are the nicest and most professional people I met. At least they try to appreciate you as a cricket fan.
Please get rid of arrogant men in this Gentlemans game.

Thats my homeboy...............hate him or love him ......a great talent wasted .....he couldve been one of the greatest..........but now he's one the greatest wastes of talent.
I still think he's the best bowler in the world when he takes the field(which he does once in while...hehe).......chances are that he'll be back .......with a game winning spell and will go out with another unethical incident.
until then we'll miss you shoaib akhtar.

Yes it's true that Shoaib is of no use for pakistan cricket. You just look at last 4 or 5 years he hasn't played much of the cricket and when so ever he's played mostly under performed. Secondly I think he has no fear that whether PCB kicks him out because he's got an offer of around 10 to 12 crore for playing for ICL. So PCB must ensure that He doesn't play for any team and PCB must get his career ended.
