Sreesanth stakes his claim

After a series of poor one-day outtings Sreesanth turned in figures of 2 for 39 off ten overs. Has he done enough to book his ticket to the West Indies? What about Irfan Pathan and his failings? Do you think Munaf Patel should make the trip - he's bowled really well but his fielding is shambolic. Post your opinion on Match Vox.

Munaf should make the World Cup Squad for his fast and tight bowling. His fielding is a minor problem too. Irfan Pathan's should be taken because of his allrounder skills that would help india get early wickets and get quick runs in the crucial slog overs. Sreesanth should not be taken as he is inconsistent.

Sachin and zaheer should be the death over bowlers for India. And sachin should bowl medium pace and he is a very good bowler under death. If we can recollect things he had bowled extremly well in death over lot of times. And if Agarkar is chosen to bowl death over he should go around the stumps (for BHB) and try to bowl yorker. If he still stcicks to over the stump he will be scored as it had happned lot of times.

Munaf better go. No two ways about that.

Quite silly really to think he merits a ticket to the World Cup.One swallow does not make a summer and one good innings does not make a bowler.Try to keep in mind that the team is going to play serious (hopefully ) cricket, for which they are paid handsomely- and not on an escorted travel tour of the West Indies islands. If Sreesanth or anyone else wants a holiday they can have it most certainly - out of their own pockets not a prepaid one courtsey of the Indian board

Yah I think its ok if munaf takes 2-3 wickets and conceads 50 runs (which ever way ie., by misfielding also )in his spell of 10 overs

Sreesanth, though has bowled well, but he is erratic in bowling.World cup matches are different ball game.He will take time to be regualr member of Indian team.Munaf is excellant, but has to improve his fielding which has shown some signs of gettimg better.Between the two,Munaf has an edge over Sreesanth.Good Luck to both.

I feel Pathan should be dropped. He had not been in the best form. I can't find him bowl well in several series and he has lost his killer instinct which was the incoming delivery to right handers. Sreeshanth should obviously make it because of the way he bowled in SA. He needs a bit of tuning and that will do a lot for him.

Yes..sreesanth should be included in the team not based on this performance, but for his abilities to bowl in fast bouncy pitces. He has the ability to pick wickets if its a fast track and is a good motivated, active and enthusiastic player on the ground...always looking / trying for different things, to make the batsman thinking and a very positive attitude on the game...No doubt, he will be the hightest wicket taker for india in the coming worldcup in WI.

Munaf must be there in the WC squad. We need a bowler who can contain the batsmen and take the wickets. And more imporatntly he is the bowler who can adjust the line and length immediately based on the pitch's behaviour. I simply dont see the team without him.

Sreesanth has certainly matured over time and has come to the right form at the right time. Also he is a much better fielder than Munaf Patel. For all the enthu and rich vein of energy he possesses, the selectors should consider Sreesanth ahead of Munaf or Ifran for the 2007 World Cup in West Indies.

The best team should go! Munaf may have bowled well but Sreesanth and Pathan show zest and the desire to bowl and WANT the ball. "Winners always want the ball" it's a risk but i'd go with sreesanth and pathan...moreover the tracks in windies would suit their style better...

i feel sree should go since he has agression ,pace, and in outside india especially when he will get seem and movement he will be a lehal weapon .munaf should go he has got good line and length but he should correct his laziness in field he should be more charged.pathan too should concentrate more in his line and length and his batting has got an edge.for my money it should be munaf ,agarkar, sree and then pathan ofcourse zaheer and only one spinner like harbahajan since lot of part time bowlers like tendulkar, shewag and yuvi .all the best india .

Surprisingly the one bowler who never lost his rhythm unlike Pathan or Sreesanth isn't on the frontline - R.P. Singh. On a similar surprising note, the one leading contender for a genuine allrounder in the team - Piyush Chawla - isn't being talked about at all. If these selectors can persist with bowlers like Agarkar, who still sports the worst test bowling average in the whole world, why can't they get R.P Singh what he truly deserves. What a shame !

Both Irfan and Sreesanth should be included, Munaf is doing fine, but has got some problems with his pace, and running..which causes his fielding errors... Irfan can deliver an all-round performance, and sree is capable of pickeing wickets in the fast bouncy pitches

Posted by: Tom on 02/11/2007

Sreesanth is far better prospect than Munaf. Can't judge who is better in bowling, but Sreesanth is better in fielding, batting & enthusiasm. And I believe the seaming piches in WI will suit Sreesanth more. He should be allowed to bowl with slips and gully most of the times.(power plays at least). What we have seen today is something new! Dravid used his 10 overs in the initial stages itself!

Posted by: Mallika Sherawat on 02/11/2007

Irfan for his all rounder capabilities should go. he can get into form playing the minnows. as for sreesanth he is erratic. his one good performance will be followed by three bad ones. munaf is must.

Posted by: Imran on 02/11/2007

Zaheer, Sreesanth and Munaf should go to WI. There should be option of forth bowler between Pathan and Agarkar. Pathan gives less runs than Agarkar. Agarkar takes more wickets than Pathan. In batting both are almost same.

Posted by: Suraj on 02/11/2007

Exactly, according Sreesanth's todays performance ,He is really eligible fo theWC squad, morover his emerging talent & age factor to be considered. Munaf is very good in indian pitches, dropping Irfan is a crucial task.

Posted by: Srikanth on 02/11/2007

Although Sreesanth is bowling incredibly well in the test matches in the one dayers he has been erratic and when the conditions are not equipped for the bowlers he leaks a lot of runs. Pathan hasnt been in the greatest of form for a long time and taking him for the world cup might be very risky because you don't know when he'll be back to his best. I think Munaf has done well over the last 10-12 one dayers and should accompany zaheer and agarkar as the third fast bowler in the squad

Posted by: Rajesh on 02/11/2007

Munaf & Agarkar both have injury problems for the last one year...which continues till now...today munaf shows signs of problems, for which he didn;'t complete his quota of 10 overs..going to WC with these people will be a burden for india..think RP Singh and Sreesanth should come in place of Irfan/Agarker and Munaf...If irfan can come back to his normal form its good for india as he is a very useful allrounder.

I would take Sreesanth instead of Pathan mainly because I can't see Pathan being taken as the 4th bowler.Keeping him as the 5th bowler instead of proper batsman doesn't make much sense as Sachin and Sehwag can easily do the job of the 5th bowler(and maybe do it better too).Better to take an extra batsman ,who is also a superb fielder, someone like Kaif or Raina maybe who can field as a substitute making up for Munaf and some others.I will also rethink about taking Kumble and maybe give Powar a chance.Kumble hasn't been bowling particularily well these days and Powar has been pretty unlucky to miss out even after some pretty decent performances. He is bit of a liability in the field but Kumble is not much better.I know this is a bit unfair on Kumble too and his experience might be valuable..but he isn't bowling very well.
My final 15 thus will be Ganguly,Uthappa,Sachin,Dravid,Yuvraj,Karthik,Sehwag,Kaif/raina/pathan,dhoni,agarkar,sreesanth,munaf,zaheer,Harbhajan,powar/Kumble.

kumble should be dropped because on any day sreesanth or munaf or irfan is a better bowler than kumble
