Ready. Fire. Aim.

Posted by Cricinfo - on 09/21/2008

From Faisal, United Arab Emirates

I think Cricinfo needs some low brow contributions as well. So its left to me start it off I guess.

1 - Mohammad Yousuf feels he deserves to be in the Twenty20 squad for Pakistan and he has "nothing to prove" to anyone about his credentials - anyone out there recall any inning this guy has played that might have remotely put Pakistan in a position of strength against the major test playing countries. He's pretty good against West Indies on flat Pakistani tracks.

2 - Tendulkar feels that Aus-Ind is a greater rivalry than Pak-Ind. Well I guess that would make sense - if you can only score runs against Australia but not South Africa, Sri lanka, England - maybe he has a vested interest there.

3 - Speaking of Australia - I have a million dollars right here for any player willing to go to Baghdad - any takers? Alright one at a time fellas, don't run me over on the way to the plane.

4 - Is it just me or is there way too much print being wasted on Andrew Symonds? He is a sub-standard Aussie test player. Believe me, scoring against India is not a benchmark. That would make Zaheer Abbas peerless

5 - Javed Miandad wants a professional to run the PCB - you know the kind who hasn't been fired 4 times (count with me 1,2,3,4) as national coach

6 - Jacques Kallis was bitterly disappointed with being left out of South Africa Twenty20 squad - yup, he was made and he showed how wrong they were with his performances in the IPL: I believe his Twenty20 strike rate is slower than this test rate. Recall reading how bland Graeme Hick was to watch as a player - he had a "mechanical" approach to run-making. Funny, you can say the same for Kallis.

Enough venom for now

1.He was just disappointed because he is missing out on the money.

2. Sure he averages less than his career againt South Africa, but his record against SL and ENG is better so do some research before you go bagging a great player.

3.After what happen over the weekend, Baghdad might be safer!

4.Yes, but he is a good test player who has good scored runs against other nations apart from India. Once again check your facts.

5.The cricket world would love to see the PCB run by a professional.

6. See number 1.

1. I think Mohammad Yousuf is one of the best players for Pakistan. And yes I agree that he really as nothing to prove he is good and he knows it.
2.Maybe to Tendulker the Aus/India game is the best but to the Aussies the Ashes are important as the Aus/India game and so is the Aus/South Africa game.
3.Now they can make massive amounts of money for a few months work doing 20/20 so in fact the cricketers themselves are actually running the roost not the cricket boards of the country. All that needs to be said is I don't want to do that so either excuse us or else we will go and play IPL/ ICL.
4.Symonds actually is very good in Test/1dayer and 20/20. Jacques Kallis is great at Test and he fields and does a bit of bowling but I must agree with you he actually is to slow for 20/20

1.Mohd Yusuf is a very consistent albeit under rated crickter. He can perform in 20/20.
2. Tendulkar averages above 50 against both England and South Sri lanka. So check your facts. I dont see how playing against a shoaib malik led team can be bigger than playing Australia.
3.Baghdad is safer than Pakistan, try reading the newspapers. Before talking about offering cricketers with money share it with PCB, maybe they can improve the basic amenities expected in the modern world.
4.Andrew Symonds sub standard?? Since 2006 his average and strike rate are both marginally better than Viv Richards in one day cricket. In test cricket he is averaging 71 in 2007-2008.
5. Javed Miandad is talking about PCB not just the coach. Please try to understand the complete statement before jumping to conclusions.
6. Any player will be disappointed if he is left out or dropped. Kallis averages better in both bowling and batting than Sir Gary Sobers.

Overall: No substance or facts, just frustation.

Forgot to mention:
Zaheer Abbas IS peerless.

To Aniruddha

2) What is Tendulkar's average against Pakistan and Australi? One thing is certain though... India trails both Pakistan and Australia in overall head-to-head Test/ODI comparison so it doesn't matter who the opponent is... India must win to catch up.

3) "Baghdad is safer than Pakistan"? Sure why not... BCCI must be a group of morons for sending Indian team to Pakistan without any fear for the past few years... most recent being the Asia cup. You should request BCCI to wise up and change the venue to neutral Baghdad for their next outing against Pakistan and we will see if Kumble and co. will take you up on your offer.

This is cricinfo.. so i wont get personal and since this is your article not mine, i will also refrain from justifying myself in future.
1. Yes pakistan has a better track record than India on the cricketing field... agreed. Check your facts again though and you will see it was all before 2003. My point remains the same... there is no attraction to play against a team which is rated number 6 in tests and failed to make it to the second round of the WC since 1999.
Tendulkar: His average against Pakistan and South Africa is more than any other current Pakistani player against any major test playing nation. So Pakistani supporters can be good in critising others but fail to back it up with numbers just as the case has been with terrorism for the past decade.
2. Baghdad IS safer than Pakistan if you read the newspaper. Both are unsafe , its the degree to which it is. India's tour of Pakistan is as much confirmed as the WC. Wait and see. Time will tell.

I personally think the BCCI is nuts in blindly agreeing to send the Indian team to Pakistan.

Though I am hoping that the planned India-Pakistan series would be relocated to Dubai (assuming the ground is ready by then)
