A very quick primer on how to pick your fantasy team
a. Form is temporary class is permanent: For those who still aren't quite sure what this hoary old cliche means, it means that while it's all very fine to pick on form, and very sensible too, you'd be well advised not to ignore the greats, even if they don't happen to be in great nick. Hint: Ricky Pointing, Matt Hayden and Brendon McCullum
b. Don't take your eye off the ball, and the series home page: Seeing the way players are being picked and discarded in these fickle times, if you don't make it a point to keep track of squad changes you're going to end up with a pretty useless fantasy team.
c. Form is temporary, temperament is permanent: This is a series between two sides that play an aggressive and, sometimes, brutal brand of cricket. Before you pick a guy for your fantasy team, make sure he's not the lily-livered, mentally fragile sort. He'll be of no use whatsoever to your fantasy team.
Well, that's it for now. Feel free to share your picks with me. That way, we'll have something interesting to talk about. And argue over. Adios and let's chat soon.
1.AB de Villiers
2.M Hussey* TP
3.H Amla
4.N Mckenzie
5.M Clarke
6.S Watson
7.B Haddin
8.L Tsotsobe
9.M Ntini
10.B Lee
11.M Johnson
What do you think of the team? Do you think Lee or Steyn is a better choice?
Avi says: Since you asked, definitely, unequivocally, unarguably Lee. (Uh-oh.)

Although it is very strong side but i think in wicket keeping dept Mark Boucher should be elected instead of B Haddin, he is more potential as comparted to Haddin. I think it is very balance squad. thanks

Very good team, as of I am concerned.. But,,, Where is Ponting Boss??
Posted by: Rohan at December 13, 2008 7:58 PM
I feel Brett Lee's no longer the consistent performer he used to be. On the other side, conditions are perfect for fast and unrelenting players like Steyn and Morkel.
Also, Haddin seems a much more logical choice as compared to Boucher.
Here is mine
AB Villers *TP
Pointing
M Clarke
Mc Kenzie
Smith
Watson
Haddin
Ntini
Morkel
Johnson
Krezza
m still thinkin to move out krezza nd bring in siddle to make in place 4 hussey or brett lee...

Hi A.Chakradhari, Are you talking about your fantasy team or the team of the series. Because your team does nt fit into fantasy team cost criteria
Posted by: jimmy singh at December 15, 2008 1:34 AM
avi, it is so hard to make a competitive team with the bowlers that are playing three seamers and a spinner u have to pick a bowler who is not going to play. everybody is too expensive common now kerja and paul harris for 90000 each little bit too much compare to ND McKenzi for 85000 and or Mj clarke for 90000 who was man of the series in the last series he played against NZ or hayden for 90000 and Katich for 95000. kerja and paul harris should be not more then 85000. show me what the team Manager's team going to be
Avi says: Hi Jimmy, we'll fix this from the next game. Promise.

with watson out time to make changes guys
Posted by: Gaurav at December 17, 2008 12:27 AM
I agree with Jimmy. The prices of players should be reviewed.
The inclusion of Siddle has been a good news as we can have all 11 fantasy players playing in the match.

I have been playing these games for quite some time and the best result has been a top 100 finish. So I came eagerly to your primer. But I found it full of cliches. So I decided on my own primer...Here it goes for whatever its worth.
1)Dont take a classy player who has been suffering a prolonged loss of form...Ponting, Dravid, Hayden...You might be better off with Clarke, Katich, Gambhir.
2) Horses for Courses...In Australia choose more bowlers as batsman are not going to score huge scores (esp for odi) and in India large scores are common.
3) Always look at players who will get more chances to play (openers in odi, Spinners in Sydney)
4)Dont go by emotion. We all have favourite players. I burned my fingers plenty on Tendulkar. Go by cold logic only.
5) First tests are a good indicator of whats to come. Strauss and Katich being point. Who is to bet against these players outperforming respective captains for this series
6)Catches win matches.Select players in catching positions

hi avi
how crazy is this i was sitting on number 165 with lee as trump on begging of day two hoping leee was gonna take so wickets and i wass gonna move i had gc smith amla mckindze and mc johnson came in and took seven what wwere the chance of that i am at number 5851 now crazy its of i had mc johnson in my other team and had him as my trump just because i know that mc johnson is like taht never know what he is gonna do and that exactly what happned in that team i am at number 265 this is just crazy sa just gave it up i love SA its my favroite team i still think i got a strong chance in my 265 team i got clake hayden to come bat styen nitini to bown hopefully hayden show up for the second inning i am tired of him not doing anything
Posted by: jimmy at December 22, 2008 2:28 AM
Avi how crazy is this devilers as man of that match he did have a heroic effort but did not deserve the man of the match I belive mitchlle johnson was the man of the match even though they lost compare his effort to kerja in his debut. When india beat australia in india about a month ago. Even thogh they lost kerja was match for his 9 wicket in the match mitch johnson took 8 and 2 11 int the match. Or compare sehwags 83 in 68 ball against england in first test sehwag was man of the match evenn though.sachin hit century in that inning.if devileres is that man of the match then sachin shouldve benn the man if that match and sehwag was the man of the match in that game the gc smith should been thr man of match.cureent position 287 fell from 62. Ur thought avi. And when are the prices of plyers are beight lowered to what the really should be?
Avi says: Hi Jimmy, thanks for writing. The player prices will be adjusted from the next fantasy game. Wrt MOM awards, generally, they're given to the person who makes a match-changing contribution and not just to the biggest score or the person taking the most number of wickets.
