« Meet The VVinners (MTVV) | | My team for the second ODI in Indore »

November 11, 2008

Posted by Avinash Subramaniam at 7:36 AM in Ind v Eng (2008)

India v England is here

Have you put together your fantasy team? If not, you still have a bit of time and loads of information to help you arrive at your set of choices. Time now for me to go and do just that. I'll be back in a day or three to share my picks with you. Until then, ciao.

PS: Couldn't wait for a day or three, so here's my Fantasy team for the first ODI. Come on, talk to me.

The Community Managers:
G Gambhir
IR Bell
Yuvraj Singh *TP
RG Sharma
YK Pathan
A Flintoff
MJ Prior
JM Anderson
Z Khan
RJ Sidebottom
MM Patel

A couple of changes I've made: Gambhir is now my Trump Player. Sidebottom is gone and in comes Harmison. Also, I've dropped Anderson and drafted in Broad. Let's see how it all pans out.

hi avi,
its jimmmy manager of pg teams
i am thinking that flintoff would be a better choice of trump player then anybody else what do you have to say about the pitch i am thinking its a fast pitch will help the bowler in first odi what do you say thanks and and lets do it. i love playing england fantasy.

Avi says it will be a batsman's game.

Try to put Sehwag in as TP, couples of players from your current side might not be participated in the 1st match. Try to read cricinfo preview about match day before the match.

Avi says: I'm certain all the players have picked will play. Unfortunately, I cannot afford Sehwag :-( Thanks for the tips Champion. Let's play!

Looks like Sidebottom is not going to play. So, I've gone and replaced him with Harmison. Hope it works. And not. (After all, we don't want hm to skittle out the home side, do we?)

HI Avinash....... well i m following this fantasy cricket from about 15 past months i guess.....i play with two teams ( as generally by most of us) and yeah i started also a community on a social networking site(orkut) we create a league and all of there joins that league.....and from South africa test series we are starting the league just before end of series having only toppers of the series from ourselves in that league ...so that league also features in tOP......do comment on this...

Avi says: That's awesome. You might also want to check out the Official Cricinfo Community on Facebook, assuming you haven't already. I generally play with only 1 team. Keep coming back and telling us how your team is doing. In fact, if you'd like you can also write for the Cricinfo Fantasy Blog, Fantasy Post and share with all of us your strategies and thoughts on circket. What say?

Hi Avinash, A bunch of friend's and cricket enthusiasts have been playing Fantasy cricket since it started on cricinfo. There's been one guy - team name champs(finished 5th overall on cricinfo league for IND-OZ series)who has won 90% of all leagues. I am not sure how he manages it, because beyond statistics there is an element of luck. We have grown from a league of 7-8 players to 25, but have one policy to never ask anyone to drop out because of a bad performance just to bump up our league ranking! Honestly it's been truly enjoyable and great to hear various comments, opinions and most of all virtual sledging.

Hi avi.. don't you think Indian team is a bit harsh on us fantasy fans, announcing the final lineup just before the match ;). Other sides generally announce it a day earlier and the players have chance to prepare.
The problem with me is I am a late sleeper and by the time I wake up, the cutoff time for team change is over :(.
Now also i am in a dilemma over whom to keep.. is Yuvaraaj going to play or Rohit sharma.. or whether Munaf is the 2nd fast bowler or RP gets a chance..

Avi says: Such is life, Sir. Some things we just can't do much about. So we must simply grin and bear it. Enjoy the game. And thanks for playing :-)

Hey Avi ...thanx a lot for ur previous reply on my post here.. I would anytime love to write for fantasy blog etc. to share my strategies etc. However this time my team is not going well atleast after first match. It is at 3456 rank after first game.. not a perfect start but hope to comeback in this long series... Also managing the Transfers is one of the most important aspect here , i use them mostly due to player's injuries etc. and rarely on bad form of some player or if any lowpriced better player is not in my team. Hope the next day get better for my team and especially for INDIA.. :)
