In January of this year, Dave Richardson, the ICC’s General Manager, responded to a rising wave of umpire bashing by writing an article for Cricinfo extolling the virtues of the ICC elite panel of umpires.
In his ‘These guys are good’ speech, Richardson claimed that there was no reason to believe there was a problem with umpiring at the highest level, and cited a number of impressive statistics to back up his argument.

July 7, 2005 was the day when Vikram Solanki was appointed the first supersub under the new laws for one-day cricket. Since then a number of matches have been played with this rule in place. Skippers have spontaneously voiced their opinions about the supersub rule and many cricket writers and buffs followed suit. Most of those voices reserved some harsh words for arguably the most radical experiment tried till date in the one-day format. Now the ICC have published their verdict against the rule. 'Supersub' will ironically be subbed out of the game with immediate effect.

If I find one thing more objectionable than the incredulous inaction shown by the ICC over the dire mismanagement of Zimbabwean cricket, it is the self justification of their inaction through their latest media release.
The ICC is losing credibility with every utterance of self importance that spews from its cosy confines, detaching itself from the Zimbabwean situation and even further from the hearts and minds of the millions of stakeholders to whom the game of cricket means so much and dare I say belongs.
