David Lucas, the left-arm seamer, has signed a two-year extension to his Northamptonshire contract, keeping him at the club until 2010.
He has had a solid 2008 with 34 wickets - the best haul of his career - at 28.44 in the Championship.
..David has bowled consistently well this season, especially in [the] Championship," said chief executive Mark Tagg. "Since he joined Northamptonshire we have seen steady improvement and we look forward to David maturing into a top quality bowler over the next two seasons..
"I have enjoyed my time since I joined in 2007 on a three month trial, and for the club to offer me a two year contract shows that they have faith in me," Lucas said.
Alex Tudor has returned to Surrey, his former county, on loan after being released by Essex earlier this season. He has gone straight into their squad for the Championship match against Sussex at The Oval.
..Once again illness and injury have made selection a problem,. coach Alan Butcher said. ..But in securing the services of Alex Tudor on loan, we have an experienced bowler well used to conditions at The Oval..
