Tom Smith, the Lancashire allrounder, has joined Leicestershire on a month-long loan spell.

With Lancashire having a full complement of fast bowlers available â.. including Andrew Flintoff â.. Smithâ..s first-team chances would have been limited at Old Trafford, so the loan provides him with the chance to getting some competitive cricket.

Smith goes straight into Leicestershireâ..s squad for their County Championship match against Worcestershire at Grace Road starting on Sunday.

Lancashire cricket manager Mike Watkinson said: "Tom has recently missed seven weeks of cricket due to a thigh injury. This loan spell is a great opportunity for him to get some regular first team experience on his return to action."

The loan agreement allows Smith to be recalled if required by Lancashire.
