Tom Smith gets Leicestershire loan spell
Posted on 06/27/2008 in Leicestershire
Tom Smith, the Lancashire allrounder, has joined Leicestershire on a month-long loan spell.
With Lancashire having a full complement of fast bowlers available .. including Andrew Flintoff .. Smith..s first-team chances would have been limited at Old Trafford, so the loan provides him with the chance to getting some competitive cricket.
Smith goes straight into Leicestershire..s squad for their County Championship match against Worcestershire at Grace Road starting on Sunday.
Lancashire cricket manager Mike Watkinson said: "Tom has recently missed seven weeks of cricket due to a thigh injury. This loan spell is a great opportunity for him to get some regular first team experience on his return to action."
The loan agreement allows Smith to be recalled if required by Lancashire.

Gidman a wanted man
Posted on 06/13/2008 in Gloucestershire
Alex Gidman is set to decide in the near future whether he will remain with Gloucestershire after his current deal expires at the end of the season.
Warwickshire and Surrey have both made 28-day approaches to speak to Gidman, but Gloucestershire are still trying to persuade him to stay at Bristol.
However, Gidman has hinted that it may be time to move as he tries to push for an England place after appearing for the Lions over the last couple of years. Warwickshire appears to be his favourite option so that he could team up with Allan Donald.
"My bowling has been my biggest weakness and Donald is the kind of guy who could help me," he told the Bristol Evening Post. "I want to give myself the best chance of playing for my country and Ashley Giles has been a big part of the England set up."
Steve Kirby is also attracting interest from Warwickshire who want to strengthen their quick-bowling line-up

One hundred and eighty Middlesex members have signed a petition expressing no confidence in the committee and demanding a special meeting. The county, without silverware in more than a decade, has made a disappointing start to the summer and only their win against Derbyshire on Monday lifted them off the bottom of Division two of the Championship.
The Middlesex committee met on Monday night, and Vinny Coddrington, the CEO, told The Times: ..These members are entitled to their opinion and I think there should be an open forum..
