Derbyshire close to batsman deal

Posted on 04/05/2008 in Derbyshire

Derbyshire are set to announce the signing of a young overseas batsman on a Kolpak deal after the player went for a registration interview with the ECB.

The name has yet to be released, and Derbyshire will have to wait until the ECB have a board meeting on April 9 for confirmation, but Tom Sears is confident the deal will go ahead.

“It went very well and we don't anticipate a problem," Sears told the Derby Evening Telegraph. "All being well, we expect to announce our new signing at the press day on Wednesday."

The club also hope to sign a Kolpak bowler in the near future as John Morris, the coach, completes his squad for 2008 after Wavell Hinds had his registration turned down by the ECB.
