Maddy and Ambrose extend Warwickshire contracts

Posted on 12/21/2007 in Warwickshire

Darren Maddy has extended his contract with Warwickshire by three years to keep him at the club until the end of the 2010 season. He was also reappointed as captain.

“Darren has been such an asset to the club since joining last season," Ashley Giles, Warwickshire's director of cricket, said. "It is great to secure his services for the next 3 years. He is a professional who leads by example which is why he has been handed the captaincy for the second year running. He has vast experience in the game and I am looking forward to working closely with him next year.”

Tim Ambrose has returned from India with the England Performance Programme squad and has also extended his contract to 2010.

Graeme West to head Middlesex academy

Posted on 12/18/2007 in Middlesex

Middlesex Cricket Board cricket development officer, Graeme West has been appointed as Middlesex CCC’s new academy director, to take over from Toby Radford, who was recently appointed first team coach.

West has worked for the MCB for over 10 years and has already worked with a number of the academy players through his coaching of the youth age group squads. “I am delighted to have been offered the academy director role” commented West. “I am looking forward to working with, and supporting the development of, the current crop of talented young cricketers that we have at Middlesex.”

“Graeme has a lot of experience within Middlesex in the youth cricket and schools system – no one is more experienced than him in that field” added John Emburey, Middlesex director of cricket. “His experience and knowledge will be a huge benefit for the future of Middlesex cricket.”

Welch confirmed as Essex bowling coach

Posted on 12/14/2007 in Essex

Essex have appointed Graeme Welch as their new seam-bowling coach. Welch, 35, retired through injury last summer after playing for Warwickshire and Derbyshire.

“After retiring from playing in the summer I’ve been looking for a new start and as I’ve been coaching for a number of years already this is a great opportunity, especially with all the changes that have been taking place at Essex,” he told the club’s website.

“I’ll bring my knowledge and experience of swing bowling, having bowled it myself and played with and against a lot of international bowlers whose brains I’ve picked. In general I hope to bring enjoyment, excitement and fun to the role. Although I’m not a slave driver I’m not afraid of hard work so I hope to instil that into the bowlers at Essex.”

Pietersen agrees Hampshire extension

Posted on 12/12/2007 in Hampshire

Kevin Pietersen has agreed a three-year extension to his Hampshire contract, although the club will see very little given all his England commitments.

"I get a really warm welcome from the Hampshire fans whenever I am down at the Rose Bowl and I look forward to that continuing in the coming seasons," said Pietersen.

Rod Bransgrove, the Hampshire chairman, added: “KP is a true world-class talent and this is great news for all Hampshire fans. We don’t see him quite as often as we would like but that’s only because he continues to play so brilliantly in the international arena.

"We savour the times we have him in the Hampshire side and I’m certainly looking forward to him giving the opposition bowlers a rough ride here at the Rose Bowl on more than a few occasions next season.”

Wainwright extends contract

Posted on 12/10/2007 in Yorkshire

David Wainwright, the left-arm spinner, has signed a new three-year deal with Yorkshire through to the 2010 season.

Wainwright, 22, became an ever present member of the one-day side, finishing the 2007 campaign with 17 wickets at 21, with a Man-of-the-Match performance of 3 for 6 against Durham in the Twenty20 Cup at Headingley.

“I’m really pleased to sign a new deal with the club," said Wainwright. "2007 was a terrific season to be playing for Yorkshire and the work doesn’t stop now. I want to cement my place in the one-day side and work my way into Yorkshire’s Championship team.”
