McGarry, 25, had his summer ruined by a long-term injury that forced him to endure a long spell on the sidelines. He suffered a hand injury while bowling during the LV County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in May having being re-engaged by the county on a one-year deal following a previous spell with the club from 1999 to 2003.

Essex Physio Mark Thomas explained: �..Andrew sustained a multiple fracture to his right 5th metacarpal in his hand. This required surgery and internal fixation. As a result he has been unable to train or play since.�.�
