Essex have announced they will not be offering a contract extension to Andrew McGarry, whose existing agreement finishes at the end of the 2007 season.
McGarry, 25, had his summer ruined by a long-term injury that forced him to endure a long spell on the sidelines. He suffered a hand injury while bowling during the LV County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in May having being re-engaged by the county on a one-year deal following a previous spell with the club from 1999 to 2003.
Essex Physio Mark Thomas explained: ..Andrew sustained a multiple fracture to his right 5th metacarpal in his hand. This required surgery and internal fixation. As a result he has been unable to train or play since..
..It..s very sad that he won..t be joining us on the full-time staff for next year,. said David East, the chief executive. ..Andrew came in at a very difficult time for us when we had picked up some serious injuries and unfortunately then picked one up himself. We..ve had a long chat with Andrew and I..m sure he..ll be welcomed back during pre-season next year, so we..ll assess the situation then, but at the moment he won..t be on the full-time staff..
