Yorkshire release young trio

Posted on 08/28/2007 in Yorkshire

Yorkshire have released a trio of young second XI players. Nick Thornicroft, Chris Gilbert and Greg Norton have not had their contracts renewed.

Martyn Moxon, the director of cricket, said: “It is always difficult to tell young players that they will not be offered new contracts. However, while all of them have made contributions to the club, especially to the 2nd XI, we feel that we are unlikely to be able to offer 1st XI opportunities in the near future.

“Players in their early twenties need to be challenging for first team slots and therefore we believe that it is in their best interests to seek alternative cricket opportunities elsewhere. We have offered to assist in this process and would wish Nick, Chris and Greg every success in the future.”
