Notts release Mierkalns

Posted on 07/03/2007 in Nottinghamshire

Josh Mierkalns, the Nottinghamshire second XI batsman, has been released from the club.

Wayne Noon, Notts’ assistant manager, said “things haven’t worked out and Josh has not kicked on as we would have liked,” adding that the batsman hadn’t produced the weight of runs they were expecting.

Mierkalns, 21, spent two years with the club’s academy before joining the staff on a summer contract. He made his debut for their second XI at the age of 16 and his first-class debut last season.

Mierkalns played twice in the Twenty20 Cup, once in the NatWest Pro-40 League and also made one first-class appearance against West Indies A.
