Essex 2nds take on the Afghans

Posted on 06/19/2006 in Essex

Essex 2nd XI take on the Afghanistan national team in a one-day friendly match at Billericay on Tuesday.

The Afghans are on their first tour of England and are set to play seven matches during their visit.

The Essex 2nd XI coach, Paul Grayson, is looking forward to tomorrow's one-day encounter:

"It will be a good experience for our lads. Afghanistan have come on a lot over the last couple of years and it will be good for them to play against a different culture and different types of batsmen/bowlers.

"I understand they have one or two decent spinners and, according to their coach, one of the fastest bowlers in the world (19-year-old left-arm seamer Shahpur Zadran) so that should be interesting."
