Sources inside Zimbabwe are reporting that former Kenya captain Steve Tikolo has been signed by Masvingo-based Southern Rocks to act as their new player-coach.
Tikolo, who has been a bedrock of the Kenya side for more than a decade and was at one time widely regarded as the best batsman outside the Test arena, recently stood down as captain and admitted that he was nearing the end of his playing career.
With Zimbabwe’s new domestic structure, which starts this week, now on a professional footing, the money is available to the five newly-created franchises to attract good foreign talent
If confirmed, Congratulations Steve! One of the best cricketer from the Associates and I am sure we will here more from the face of Cricket Kenya as he launches another phase of his cricket career.

Its good news to hear that the franchise system is attracting foreign talent and overally this is a positive for Zimbabwe Cricket. I certainly hope that the season is going to be beneficial to the country as playing more will increase our capabilities of playing in the Tests again and hopefully attract more players, notably Sean Ervine because i believe he is one player that is needed as well as Antony Ireland to increase the pace attack. The recent Bangladesh series showed that, apart from the lack of consistency, our batsmen have managed to pull huge scores only for the ballers to disappoint us once again. Tikolo, welcome and i wish you all the best.

I wish more Kenya Cricketers can be accomodated in the new Zim domestic structure. The Nairobi league has no standards and no money.

With a player of such quality, i believe the future holds great things not only for him but his new place and Kenya. It's a pity that Kenya has few quality players between him and youngster, Alex Obanda.

Test playing nations should adopt their neighbours and include them as a team in their domestic league. This is the only way to generate interest in the game. For example India can include Nepal in their domestic league and South Africa can include Kenya and Zimbabwe in their domestic league. This way even weak teams can get a chance to play against competitive side and gain experience.

Good luck Steve, remember this is your opportunity to extend your experiences to others.
It must not be your final bow to a fabulous career, maybe oneday Kenyan cricket will have a home grown coach.

Tikolo could have been a decent choice for coach player's role for Kenya itself.

Frasat, great to see you still keep in touch with your grass roots. Met Jagoo the other day and we got talking about the good old days. Last i saw you, you had turned out with a staight bat and scored a hundred.Ofcourse you did ball, with lesser speed and more control. How the 70s school doing ? Do you still keep in touch with Zuli and Azhar!
