Brian Lara is expected to visit Uganda in June, according to the Daily Monitor. He has been invited by the Trinidad & Tobago High Commission and the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) to visit between June 2 and 10.
"The provisional schedule includes a meeting with the sports minister, cricket sponsors and also hold two training sessions with the national team," a source told the newspaper.
Lara will be visiting the nation's main cricket venue - Queen Elizabeth National Park in Kasese - as well as a number of schools. He is also expected to feature in a friendly game at Lugogo Oval and attend a dinner hosted by the UCA.
Uganda recently finished 10th among 12 teams at the ICC World Cup Qualifiers, losing to Bermuda by eight wickets in the 9th place playoff.

Ugandan cricketers both da men and ladies..take this oppotunity with most gratitude,mek da most out of it,ask lara as many questions as possible,get him to explain da things uve failed to understand in cricket..get da most out of him and remember many of us would really like to see dat guy but lyf took us samwea else...so atleast for Naomi's sake ask how he plays his leg glance and pull shots,ask him why pipo get on foam and loose it very soon,help me ask him about wat psycology is related to nice battin....trust me ave missed dis oppotunity buti pray God gets me anatha one......i dearly miss the whole Ugandan cricket fratenity and jast playin cricket itself..weldone the Mens syde but hard luck but,we still support you.....Yondos....(used to bat one down)

If Ugandan cricketers get good exposure, they can certainly improve the standards of their game. In 2007 they played in a 4-nation T20 tournament, where the other three were Kenya, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Uganda managed to get a surprise victory against the hosts(Kenya).

Of course Uganda cricket-lovers are on tenterhooks. Cricket is all about history – the teams, the players, averages. I’m currently writing a book on Ugandan Asians, based on the 1972 expulsion and their tentative return since the late 1980s. It’s to record Asian contributions to Uganda in the pioneering days and in recent times. People’s memories of their childhood are included. Cricket figures heavily in this as it was such an important part of growing up in Uganda then. In the 1950s cricket meant the Lewis Cup. Fifteen teams competed, most of them communal teams from various Asian communities. The highest score here rests at 218 n.o. by Noordin Virani in Uganda XI vs Tanzania XI, 1966. I shall prepare an article for the local media to coincide with the 400 n.o.’s visit. I could share it with you if you wish.
