Ben Sennik faces some tough questions after the resignation of Mike Kendall as the board’s first vice-president.
Ben Sennik, the chairman, had brushed aside suggestions that Ahuja’s departure came about because of fundamental differences between the two of them, but in a brief statement Kendall made clear that was at the root of his decision.
In a one-paragraph letter to Sennik, he wrote: “Due to consistently substantial difference of opinion, on important policy matters and the direction of Cricket Canada under your leadership, I am hereby resigning … effective immediately.”
Whereas Ahuja has kept below the radar since he left, probably because of contractual obligations, Kendall, who was in a non-paid role, will have no such restrictions, and Sennik now faces some tough questions as to what is really going on behind the scenes.
Coming right after a recent highly publicised and exciting tournament in the San Francisco area for the u-17 Junior Cricket honours, this news is very disturbing. Snow, it appears that the two North American cricket associations, i.e. the Canadian and USA Cricket Associations, are completely out of the picture-- and this, just when the the first ever World Cup tournament to be staged entirely on North American soil is to take place in March 2010! I too would like to know from Mr. Ahuja what he thinks, and why he feels Canadian cricket is headed in the wrong direction. Mr. Ahuja, will you please oblige us?
Sennik must be the one to go.I don't know everything but Ahuja raised the profile of cricket in Canada and accomplished a lot.As for the US cricketers also have to find a way to forge ahead so the first American College Cricket Spring Break Championship is happening this month in Florida.Good luck to these young cricketers.
