Fiji's annual cricket clinics have begun in Albert Park.
The clinics aim to give children an enjoyable and fun experience and will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday until December 19. The fun starts at 9am, with the clinics open to boys and girls of all ages. Attendance is free.
With the support of Pizza Hut, all children who attend the clinics will receive a free Pizza hut lunch to add to the enjoyment.
Australian Test cricket star, Chris Rogers, will be in Fiji today and tomorrow to help the next generation of Fijian cricketers achieve their aims.
The West Indies cricket team compromises of different islands nations. The pacific must have some thing similar. The islands nations in the pacific are small in size and will find in difficult to keep producing test players on a consistent base.
They can play against each other and put up a team by picking up good players from each side. Most of these countries are a part of the common wealth and play cricket.
Countries such as Fiji should lead the way. Even they cannot make it to a world cup after having the culture and history. The reasons are mentioned above. But if they get together with neighbors like Cook Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands. Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu. If we can start a competition. We can develop 1 ground in each country to host games. Some thing that ICC can think about.If this happens, after Australia and New Zealand we will have a third test team from this part of the world.
Amar Mendes suggestion is a great idea and something ICC should consider.
I've had similar thoughts for Europe, maybe Ireland Netherlands Denmark etc should produce a European team with players gaining experience and local interest.
Now back to the pacific, what is the interest for cricket on these islands? can they sustain test cricket status? enough interest? money? etc. Could someone from the region comment?
