No ODI status for Bermuda v Canada clash

Posted on 11/24/2008 in ICC Americas

Although matches between any of the six leading Associates are officially classified as full ODIs and included in career and team records, the ICC has ruled that the game between Bermuda and Canada during the ICC Americas Division 1 event in Florida starting on November 24 will not be counted as such.

The reason for the decision is that the venue has not been approved by the ICC to stage full ODIs, although it is hoped that an inspection in the near future could enable it to become the USA's first accredited international ground.

It will be good for the USA to have a ground of their own in which they can stage full ODIs. As for the match itself, i am honestly not too sure if it deserves the ODI status on merit alone given the pour showings of both teams over the last two years. However their development is vital for the region, and i wish both Bermuda and Canada the best of luck in the tournament.

I thought that at least three grounds in North America-- Stanley Park in Vancouver BC, the grounds in Ontario where the IND V PAK Sahara Cup series was played ten years ago, and Woodley Park where the IND A v AUS A matches were staged about the same time, had already been approved by ICC for international ODIS judging by those already established track records? Sure, it would be nice to have other grounds available as well (although I am sceptical about Bermuda, judging by what I read in Cricinfo about administrative mismanagement of their domestic tournament as well as their ICC-sanctoned events). No need to re-nvent the wheel-- let's just go ahead and play some good cricket!

USA have grounds.
I think if ICC has some funds for Associates and development in Americas they will not hesitate playing any games here but they have to come here and Inspect again. But I Guess ICC does not have any Attention towards USA.
After suspension USA was sent to Division 5 and bad luck for them they lost 1 Semi in Jersey.
they have to wait years Now they Won Division 1 in Florida and they still wait for years to get back to ICC Games. I am Just a Normal player and was just speaking my mind. but I think ICC should help them promote cricket in people raised in USA and love Cricket.
