Barbados women will take part in a boys’ Under-15 competition. While it is not a new phenomenon – the women have played male opposition in the past – it will be the first time a female team has participated in this particular tournament.
The team are not expected to ace the competition or even win a game, particularly as their four internationals are away on West Indies duties for most of the time. But the experience is considered a valuable development opportunity.
"If we are doing anything to develop women's cricket, we have to give them exposure," the chairman of the West Indies board’s women’s committee, Jeff Broomes told Nationsport. We have to take affirmative action to help women's cricket."
It is good that the women's team is getting to play among the boys and i have no doubt that they will win some matches even tho the 4 players on West Indies duties will be out of the Island.i know their ability and know they will do well...DO WUNNA BEST GIRLS!!

I don't like this idea at all. If women's cricket can't stand on their own two feet, maybe people don't want to watch it. I mean why should the men's cricket board keep subsidizing the women's game? Why should the men's game help them?

Anton its to bad that you don't like the idea, its a good thing you aren't a member of the board or not surely our cricket wouldn't get any where....for your information they are alot of ppl out there who would like to see the women's game and its not only the men's game obviously because we are playing it 2 and women from all over the world.....I can handle constructive criticism but this surely doesn't come under that!! but anyway why am i wasting my time....no one cares if u care or not i certainly don't!! they are going to do their best in that tournament and show what they have to offer.....

I think this is a good opportunity for women's cricket to develop in Barbados and i have confidence that the girls will perform to the best of their ability. At the end of the day cricket is played in the middle and not by names....so i have no doubt that the girls CAN win some of their matches and surprise all those out their like Anton who doesn't like the idea and show them that WE can play the game just as good as the men.

If girls can play equal cricket, how come they have very less fan following among men and women? And if women's cricket have tremendous following...why do they want to club it with men's events? I even heard that there are efforts to have men's and women's matches in close dates or even same date so that fans are forced into low level of cricket by women even if they want to see only higher quality men's cricket. And why is it that revenue from men's cricket is pumped into women's cricket? If women's cricket cannot stand of its own, it does not deserve to stand.

Ramesh's comments are somewhat amusing. In any sphere of life where one group has been traditionally disadvantaged (even among races)there is a need to do a number of things to catch up. Of course women's cricket in the West Indies is far behind that of the men's game which has benefitted from the financial support not only of men but also of women. I strongly believe that the approaches being organized in Barbados are very good. It is clear that the Joel Garner led board has a focus on cricket on its wider parameters. If only the West Indies Board would follow suit. Work hard young ladies and make your support from within the BCA feel proud. The President knows what it takes for cricket and cricketers to grow and that is why you are being given such excellent opportunities. I am sure that the more your produce, the more your fan base will grow and the more financial support will follow. Congratulations to the BCA and its focus on the women's game
