The Tuscaloosa News in Florida reports on the new cricket stadium in Broward County.
The 5,000 blue stadium seats are in place. So are the special cameras embedded in the equipment to get close ups of the action. Then there is the exquisite field - emerald and manicured. But this $70 million park wasn't built for baseball or football - it's the first in the U.S. built primarily for cricket.
The sport, which enjoys worldwide popularity but has long struggled to gain an American following, has taken root in South Florida because of its large Caribbean population. Fans and officials say the stadium offers their community a chance to draw professional players, cultivate youth programs and attract new fans to the game.
"There's a tremendous awaking," said Chandradath Singh, a Broward County parks special projects coordinator. "And a major interest."
The article says that teams from West Indies, Pakistan, India, and USA will compete in the tournament. I'd have thought that as the site of America's first dedicated cricket field, Lauderhill would be targeted for coverage of the Stanford T20, along with Fort Collins. I wonder if this event will make local television? I hope so, at any rate, and that they have access to the Stanford coverage next year.

Good to see that a ground has been build but a capacity of 5000? Just 5000? Anyways,US has a long way to go.Govt. needs to put more attention towards this sport because it is getting very popular now!

good to hear the articles that is saying a very good news. i want usa to have the sports like cricket because now a days it is being very popular . u s should built a stadium like melbourne which has 100000 seats to be seated there.

it's not going to stage matches so it's sounding like a waste if there will be no international matches.

I am very glad to see a cricket stadium in USA. Know people like us who play cricket should promote it. ICC should allow some games to be played in Florida.

Comments to Mayank, be thankful, do you ever play in international matches? most people in the cricket community don`t, can you even get a ticket to go see a international game, see, first you need to buy a airline ticket if you live in the USA and then pay hotels, and try to buy tickets after, hope you don`t need a visa, lol you sound like a waste of time, just be happy we can play cricket in south Florida.
