Kit boost for Cayman Islands schools

Posted on 11/13/2007 in Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands Cricket Association’s drive to raise the standard of cricket got to another level when cricket equipment was distributed to eight high schools. CICA President Courtney Myles was pleased with the association’s initiative. He said “Our association is doing its part in providing a proper learning atmosphere for our youngsters.”.

Cricket uniforms will be handed out at a later date to all schools ensuring that the students are properly attired and with the equipment, protected during cricket practice and matches. Representing the CICA in the distribution were National Youth Coach Andy Myles and Technical Director Theo Cuffy.

The brightest aspect of cricket spreading to more and countries is the conscious effort to promote the game among schoolchildren. If they develop a real liking towards the game, the may think seriously in terms of making a career out of the game.

One just hopes that Cayman Islands can provide enough competent coaches to the children among whom cricket kits have been distributed. Watching the game on television, especially considering the technical finesse going to into the minute details of the game, can provide an alternative useful learning curve. But for professional development of the game, proper coaching is essential. That can ensure proper use of and benefit from the kits.
