It is heartening to see the spread of cricket in Latin America. Hope the ICC provides them with good funding and coaching infrastructure.

Well done Uganda. Keep on ... you got lots of young players and more importantly they all are Uganda born guys so hope you go all the way to World Cup. This is the best result I think.

Am so thrilled with Uganda's performance in the on going division three ICC tournament they well deserve to be there unfortunately talent disappears as cricket cannot solely earn you a decent living we need to put this to an end as the world's greatest game picks interest.

This achievement finds even more merit when you consider that none of their players are professionals. a big first step. with more hard work and support from the ICC, who knows, Argentina may do an Ireland.

The spread of cricket in Africa and Latin America is a good sign. Uganda is a welcome future addition to the big names of Africa with home-grown talent - many are watching their progress with interest. In Latin America it is still more an ex pat game but very slowly locals are being introduced more and more (from a South African living in Mexico)

Congratulations to all the team and staff for this great achievement and also to those players who worked so hard and didn´t make it into the final squad.

Would also like to point out that 12 of the players were born and bread in Argentina and remaining two are South Africans who have settled in our country 10 years back.

All Latin American countries must carry on with the hard work of spreading this great game!!!

Its good to see Argentina doing well. Most of their players, if not all, seem to be born in Argentina and have whole or part Latin names. Some of the players with English sounding surnames like Ferguson have Latin sounding first names. There is a lot of talent in Uganda as well. Its a real shame they don't have the proper funding and facilities or else they may well be much better than they currently are. That Kenneth Kamyuka seems to be a bit of a star and has been for a number of years despite his youth.

I've had the real pleasure of being able to watch a few of the games, both the warm-ups last week and the real work this week. The players from all teams have been a credit to their countries and to the game.

Argentina will go into the Grand Final as sentimental favourites, because Australians love the underdog. But Uganda's athleticism is going to make them hard to beat.
Whichever way it goes, it should be a great day's cricket.

Well, just commenting on some of the comments about home bred teams, well most of the teams in division three are home bred, meaning most players being born in the respective countries, except Hong Kong and Italy which are full of expats but six out of eight being home grown is a very encouraging sign.

Good for the game that local bred players from such nations are taking interest in this beautiful game. That's the only way these teams can improve and have some impact on cricket ... best of luck for these emerging nations.

Congratulations to Argentina and Uganda for moving up the ladder in world cricket with home grown players. I am from Hong Kong and am very disappointed to see that in spite of HK having a team full of expats (Pakistani,British & Australia )we played badly and were beaten pushed down the ladder. Hope the HKCA breed home grown players and learn a lesson that in the long run the team would benefit like Argentina and Uganda has shown in having faith in Home grown players.

Kudos to Uganda for having done us proud. Truthfully, Uganda was just relegated from the upper division a few years ago but we certainly deserve to go back there and represent. I do hope that the US$ 500,000 annual grant will go a long way in helping us take cricket to the next level. I am more than optimistic that we shall prove ourselves come Namibia later this year. Our only undoing is the heavy drop out of cricketers for professional jobs which are paying. Cricket in Uganda is still amateur and there is nothing it brings to the table of any player apart from "honours". Way to go guys and am also happy for Argentina too which seems to have beaten all odds to prove itself. For the rest of the teams, keep trying, there is always another time.

Well done guys! You've done Uganda proud. The unbeaten run should go until the end and should be a good start to Div 2 as well. That's not to undermine Argentina but East, West ....

During the recent World Cup it became quite fashionable to bash the ICC at every turn. Here in South America, however, the ICC has done a tremendous job in the past several years to help grow the great game, not only in Argentina, which is currently doing our region proud, but also in Brazil, Chile, Peru and Surinam, where cricket continues to make huge strides under the ICC's guidance. There is not enough space here to list everything the ICC has done for cricket in South America, but those of us who play here are deeply grateful for their ongoing support. Although Argentina is deservedly in the spotlight at the moment, in years to come you'll be hearing more from these other countries as well.

Its great to see Cricket is expanding all over the world. Hearty congratulations for Argentina & Uganda. Hope they will emerge into International cricket very soon. ICC should encourage more countries by funding to build good infrastructure and quality coaching.

It is great to hear that Argentina is a real example for other Latin American countries regarding home-grown talent (thanks for those pointing this out). That is probably one of the reasons why they have a much bigger player base and and can compete at this level internationally. I hope this spreading of the game happens in more emerging Latin American cricket countries - there are positive signs.

I think the ICC should increase the 20-20 world championship to more countries or at least have a 2nd tier tournament running parallel with the main competition. We need countries like Uganda, Argentina to be in the spotlight and in major competitions. This gives them something to play for and will expose the game to more people because of the media and press coverage. However, seeing how there was quite a few mismatches at the recent world cup, I feel the 20-20 will be the best way to expose the lesser nations to the world.

Stoneywood-Dyce CC (Aberdeen, Scotland) are watching the performances of Messrs Dugmore, Savage & MacDermott with interest. Nice to see the SDCC alumni doing well. A huge well done to all our friends in Argentine cricket!

The comments here show that there is real cricket enthusiasm "beyond the test world" (home-grown and expat) and that Uganda and Argentina are emblematic of this. I hope more countries get cricket websites (like the great Chile website for example -well done, awaiting a recent update though) Thanks for this great blog and the option to comment. Keep it up.

Congrats to the Ugandan cricket team. They made it a day for all Ugandans to be proud. First winning the Div 3 final and the Cranes (Uganda's soccer team) beat the Mighty Eagles (Nigeria)in Kampala. Well done all.

well done Uganda next task is Namibia, hoping that you go all the way into ICC trophy and then into world cup ,why you don't get benefits from Kenya and Tanzania by playing more and more matches with these neighbours countries ,comon Uganda

Well done to both of those teams. It's nice to see that the two best actually have home-grown players representing them, but the real surprise for me was that the Italian team had actual Italians playing for them! Nice to know that cricket's growing all over the world.

It is indeed a very positive sign in world cricket that many new entrants are emerging in international cricket. This will help in the global access of the game.
