Gladstone Dainty's opinion that the USA team is as good as or better than the top 6 Associate teams rings is bizarre. Having played both in the top Dutch league and the top NY league(against USA team members), I can report that there is a huge gulf in the quality of the fitness, dedication, facilities, and training--and as a consequence in the standard of play. Top Dutch clubs have their own grounds (with in some cases grass wickets); 4 or 5 senior teams each; 4 or 5 junior teams; and a professional coach. They each have practice nets, bowling machines, vast stocks of playing equipment; and a small but dedicated pool of local players. The same situation more or less obtains in Scotland and Ireland. As a result, the Dutch (and Irish and Scottish) players, although perhaps not more innately talented than their US counterparts, are miles ahead in terms of their readiness and fitness to perform. Unless and until Dainty--a notorious figure in US cricket--establishes (1)ONE decent cricket ground per major cricketing center (eg NY, Fla, CA) and (2) ONE year-round training facility per center--and there are NONE in the US to date--and finally (3) consolidates the chaotic league structure that dilutes what cricketing talent there is, American cricket has not got a snowball's chance of progressing beyond its current state, ie, a sport played to a low level by unfit foreigners on terrible playing fields. Will Dainty be able to promote such improvements? His record unfortunately suggests the contrary.

This is a strange interview if ever there was one.

On the one hand, Dainty comes across as self-righteous, unable to countenance the idea that the USACA could possibly have been in the wrong. Look at these two comments in particular.

1) With hindsight, do you regret the actions your board took which led to the ICC scrapping Project USA?
The actions of the USACA Board have always been in the best interest of cricket in the USA.

2) While the stand-off with the ICC was one thing, do you regret it causing the USA to be thrown out of major ICC events?
USACA were the victim of some unfortunate circumstances.

There are several other comments in the interview which suggest that Dainty has a serious chip on his shoulder. When such men are given power, they tend to be blinkered, and rarely succeed.

However, if you just take the last third of the interview, Dainty comes across extremely positively - as a driven, passionate man with an ambitious vision, but a sensible, down-to-earth plan. Such men often succeed when given power.

Interesting times ahead I suspect!

The interview is certainly revealing. Dainty and USACA's modus operandi seems to be to reveal little. This is a clear sign to the independent observer that things are not right.

I have played with all the USA players. But there is no level of competiton with them. These players are selected from the minor leagues. They will score against weak teams and due to some politics they are in the team. They do not have a consistent performance and most of them are out of shape. In addition, they dont have discipline whatsoever. They have still lot of learn and to promote cricket in USA to be a part of the big league that is the world cup. ICC champion trophy held in UK had all the players above the age of 31. They should really give chance to new players and have a screening process in every selection. Most of these players are part time weekend warriors. They are not full time players.. They should really improve and promote cricket in USA

This is the most bizarre interview you will ever come across. Poor Martin Williamson must have been pulling his hair out to get a single straight, convincing and truthful answer from Dainty.

Mr. Dainty needs to get himself off the high horse and smell the coffee. He ducks under the barrage of bouncers with consummate ease that would make any tail ender proud of facing the Windies quartet at their peak. Most of his responses are monosyllable’s – Yes or No. Boy, such verbose answers!! Every answer shows his defiance and ignorance to the ground realities. This reminds me of an Ostrich sticking his head in sand oblivious to the fact that he is being watched. Mr. Dainty, you are being watched too.

Mr. Dainty doesn’t seem to realize that he has truly destroyed US Cricket. How many countries have been shunted by the ICC? How many countries have been labeled dysfunctional by the ICC? How many Associates members have more than 10,000 active Cricketers but are demoted to the 3rd Division of ICC? The answer to all these questions is the USA!! Let’s analyze a few of his arrogant responses:

He is talking about Richard Hooker saying that change is uncomfortable even from ‘Worse to Better’. Mr. Dainty, for us it is painful because you have made the US Cricket go from ‘Better to Worse’.

Regarding the rigged elections, his response is that the allegations are ‘absurd’. How are they absurd, could he elaborate? He is not meeting the 21 day notice for amendment, there was no meeting of the membership to amend the constitution, he doesn’t meet the requirement to have a 2/3 majority vote of the total clubs – he hasn’t met any of the stipulations and still has the nerve to call the allegations absurd? Give me a break.

As for his tenure being the most tumultuous in the US Cricket history, his lame answer is that ‘efforts of outstanding individuals have been undermined long before my time’. Mr. Dainty, whom are you calling an outstanding individual on your team? Name ONE, please!!!

Not sure what Mr. Dainty was smoking when he calls the US equivalent or better than the top six Associates. All 12 Associates played in an ICC tournament and the US ended up 3rd from the bottom with 45 year old veterans embarrassing the whole nation. What makes him think that the US is in the top 6 or better?

He is talking about Bermuda and Canada playing in the WCLQ and US coming second. Just to remind him that the ONLY time the US has won the WCLQ was in Argentina in 2002 when Atul Rai was the president. It is shameful that he is comparing the US with Bermuda. The entire population of Bermuda is 60,000 and they will be playing in the World Cup in 3 weeks – there are 10,000 active Cricketers in the US. Go figure!!

He is claiming that he doesn’t have any animosity towards anyone or any organization. Mr. Dainty, how much USACA money have you spent on lawsuits over the years? Was that out of love or animosity?

The bottom line is that Mr. Dainty expired his shelf life long before he actually got onto the shelf. He needs to for heavens sake move on and let US Cricket make a long awaited progress. With only 43% of the clubs casting their vote regarding the amending the constitution, it doesn’t even meet the mandatory 50% under which the existing constitution was formed. As such, I see another long court battle unless ICC finally wakes up and dismisses the ‘dysfunctional’ organization.

Mr Dainty took over in 2003 and in the four year time-period US Cricket has seen very little or no progress or minus progress. Mr. Dainty and his group of supporting cast are completing four years in their office and now they are likely to continue. In my opinion, Cricket lost its opportunity to become popular in the early 1900s and history repeating by itself after 100 years. I wish the new constitution address term limits. We need new set of people with ideas and energy. If ICC is serious about spreading Cricket in the US then they should act by throwing the current regime out and run USACA under ICC lead by a professional guy. Until some drastic action is taken, US Cricket will continue to be what it is today...just play cricket on weekends on those bad fields, bad wickets and end up playing bad cricket.

What a joke. It is absolutely no exaggeration to say that Dainty & Co. run the most corrupt and dysfunctional national cricket organization in the world beyond Zimbabwe. They are directly responsible for the complete and total failing of domestic and international cricket structures in the USA. Quite to the contrary of what Dainty claims in the above interview, every action of the USACA has been against the interests of cricket in the US. They are a band of merry incompetents and, if the ICC had any interest at all in promoting the welfare of American cricket, they would be out of a job.

The tone alone of Mr. Dainty's answers tells you why the USACA is a dysfunctional oganization.

How will cricket spring to life in the future? USACA has not filed a Federal Tax Return that I can find since 21 Nov 2005. In that return they had a begining balance of $484,800 in contributions, spent $430,560. Begining fund balance was ($29,975) and at the end of the year the fund balance was ($1,905). Hey there, look at that they decressed their losses while delivering their program services. Good work USACA. What actual programs were delivered? They paid for some of the various "National" competitions expenses. Not all of the expenses incurred were covered, the shortfall was made up by generous local volunteers. Look for more shams and scams in the future. All most forgot, where is the most current Federal Tax Return Form 990? It is Public Domain Information as required by the IRS to continue as a 501 (c) 3.

It is very strange. That USACA distributes an email (on feb 22nd)to all USACA members to send nominatations For USACA executives by feb 25th, an effective organization gives 3 days to find most suitable candidates for the top cricket positions in the USA. That is a true JOKE, if it is not about Dainty then why not give every one ample time to find an appropriate person ?

Without a shadow of a doubt, this interview contains one of the most underwhelming and banal set of answers that I have ever read.

Having been involved with grass roots level cricket in the Southwestern USA day in, day out for more than 15 years, I cringe every time that anyone mentions the USACA and, especially, its leadership.

OK - looks like the last third of the interview that I referred to as above
as a possible sign of hope, was in fact merely hollow words. Sad really -
you can see from the posts here that there are many people who care about
US cricket, they just need some good central leadership.

Dainty's Interview is one for the record books. He can say all this without even blinking an eyelid. USACA will get sanctions from ICC, as he did not follow their procedure. An Independent body was supposed to conduct the elections. USA is doomed.

Here we go again. What kind of BS he is talking? There is not a single word of truth in what he says. It's time to wake up for all of us and write all the e-mails we can to ICC before March 1st to let them know what we feel about this illegal election. Dainty and his Gang has destroyed US cricket. What Joe O'neil and Shah said is true. Forget about USA ever going to do any good at any level as long as people like Dainty and his gang running the USACA. ICC is also to be blmed for this as they have allowed to let these guys run the show and giving them money. In the name of tournaments these people makes the trip all the time either as manager, coach or phycio. ICC should have spend some more time and money and asign a manger who can travel the country and meet the members face to face. yes we all need to raise our voice and let ICC know that if they do not take any action we all should pull out of USACA. we can spend our time and effort better to improve cricket at grass root level. Mr. Dainty your time is up and hope all leagues around USA protest by all the available means to ICC before March 1st before they take any action. If ICC does not do anything then we all should pull out from USACA. This is my personal opinion. Now what happened to Laks Sampath? He suddenly changed his tunes? I am sure he must be offered a post in new USACA board. That's nothing new for Mr. Dainty as he has done in past with so many others. Wake up my fellow cricketers we need to fight this thing together.

Texan, your explanation and apology are accepted without any reservation. In this case you were not hiding behind anonymity like so many others do and I was able to call you and explain myself. I wish there are a few more gentlemen like you. People wonder why there is so much animosity in US Cricket. The reason is there is anonymity and people don’t think of the true nature of damage they create throwing false accusations.
