Sri Lanka overcome plucky Malaysia

Posted on 01/26/2007 in Malaysia

Malaysia put on a brave front before going down by five wickets against Sri Lanka in the opening match of the HSBC Malaysian Under-19 Invitational tri-series at the Kinrara Oval.

It was a result which the young Malaysians, led by skipper Faris Almas-Lee, should not look into with sadness or shame but instead hold their heads high at the end of the day as there was so much excitement provided by the hosts which had the Test-playing nation gripped with nail-biting anxiety.

All the best to the Trinity LION Sachith and the Sri Lankan team.

I checked out the performance of the present cricket team who are traveling to Malaysia but it can still be observed that few members of this team is the one which lost to Nepal & Bangladesh on the last U-19 World cup held in home soil. All members of the team are mostly from western & central province so is that mean Sri Lankans have no players then these 2 region. Pathetic. Or is it because this is a small event incorporating few teams however i guess politics & influence is still playing in Sri Lanka. It is essential to shape up a good team without using politics or influence coz by the end of 2007, important senior members will be out of action therefore we should be well prepared to replace them.

The article seems pretty biased. Based on the scores of the match it looks like Sri Lanka won convincingly. Sri Lanka finished the match with 15 overs to spare and losing just 5 wickets, this indicates a convincing victory and not a nail biting one as the article suggests. If Sri Lanka had been 80 for 5 and won by a couple of wickets then it definitely would have been a nail biting victory. However, Sri Lanka won by 5 wickets with 15 overs to spare which is far from being nail biting

I was in Malaysia during th Tri-Series and was lucky enough to be one ofthose who watched the Sri Lankans play Malaysia. I must say, without doubt, that it was a great match with the home team providing a lot of excitement. I am not a Sri Lankan nor a Malaysian but there was to some extent moments of nail-biting finish. It was a close finish with the Sri Lankans put under pressure by a young and inexperienced home side who have never gone to play in the Worled Cup!!
