A group of Omani national cricketers are trying to form a breakaway group after the Oman Cricket Club, who run the game in the country, backed by the Sports Ministry, refused to bow to their demands for more representation in the national side.
"Our doors are always open and we have done everything to convince the group to continue playing in the tournaments organised by us," Maqbool Yousuf Al Lawati, vice president of the OCC, told Gulf News. "They [the Omani nationals] wanted 60% representation in the national team. We cannot accept that condition as we are here to pick the best and cricket is not played only by the Omani nationals, every resident in the country must get a fair chance, including expatriates."
A group of about 90 Omani nationals, three-quarters of the country’s players, have started playing their own tournament outside the official league in protest against OCC's refusal to accept their demands which the elected board members of the OCC termed as 'unreasonable'.
The OCC is nothing but a farce of a group of old rich men wanting to rule cricket in Oman. All they really want is to see more expatriates playing in the national team rather than encouraging Omani cricketers itself. Maqbool Yousuf Al Lawati is a self proclaimed expatriate so it's no surprise to see him talk trash.

A group of individuals who want to rule the roost forever and surprsingly from the same high profile sports club that has the only two grounds in town to play on?
Well at least for the better, Thailand does have some Thai Nationals playing the national team

with respect m agree with both 2 comments on this blog in oman cricket is in rich peopls hands like khimjis who rule the occ and without there blessing no one can enter in the body of occ i must say that these rich peopls are truly not deserve these posts the are just spoiling the cricket spirit put omani cricket on the worst ever till 2007

well the true pictuer of cricket in oman is equal 2 football fedration of pakistan some of rich people who run the cricket body of oman OCC like there own company khimjis are spoiling cricket of oman they know nothing about cricket just making fool to ACC and making money from them kindly i hv requested to ACC to stop funding them

With all due respect to all those who commented , when u are paying or spending that much money and all you would not want to send a team that is not capable of winning . The omani nationals may not be equal to the calibre of the expatriates who would have loads of experiance playing the game . WHAT is the problem in picking the best players out of a league ? IF u really want to get ure self in then you should strive harder to make it into the team . Is the football team there consisting of any expatriates ?? Why so ?? cos they arent as good as the omani players who are extremely skilled and passionate about football !!

SORRY TO SAY THAT BUT PPL WHO R BLAMING COMPANIES LIKE KHIMJIS FOR SPOILING CRICKET IN OMAN SHOULD THINK THAT IF KHIMJIS DID NOT SUPPORT CRICKET IN OMAN ,THERE WOULD BE NO NAME OF CRICKET IN OMAN. ITS EASY TO POINT FINGERS,HAVE U EVEN CONTRIBUTED 1% TOWARDS THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME IN OMAN? I WANTED TO BRING A TOURING CRICKET TEAM TO OMAN AROUND OCTOBER TIME. THE TEAM WOULD BE YOUNGSTERS BETWEEN 15-17 YRS OLD .. LOOKING FOR UK WINTER TIME PRACTICE AND GAMES.
COULD SOMEONE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS POSSIBLE, WITH RECOMMENDATIONS OF TEAMS TO CONTACT IN OMAN (MUSCAT), WHERE TO STAY, ARE GROUNDS GRASS OR MATTING, STADIUMS AVAILABLE ETC.
WE HAVE BEEN TO DUBAI A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT NOW WANT TO TRY SOMEWHERE ELSE...

well with respect MR ASHER u must be working for khimjis or u r blind u know what is the true picture in oman for cricket the teams are less in every coming year. A Division players are like more professional they show and they act like professional although they are not umpiring are worst ever they have no interest in other division except a division no one following the basic cricket in oman is only just to come and enjoy in heat that's it please ACC stop funding them thanks
